Purdue Adds In-State Verbal from Carmel Swim Club’s Griffin Seaver for 2020-21 Season
NEW COMMIT: Purdue University has received an in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Carmel, Ind. native and current high school junior Griffin Seaver.
Seaver swims year-round with Carmel Swim Club and most recently competed at Indianapolis Speedo Sectionals where he achieved 100% best times. He finished fourth in the mile at the Speedo Music City Invite in November and placed sixth in the 1500m free at Indiana LCM Seniors this past summer. Also competing for Carmel Swim Club, Seaver raced to 13th in the 500 free at the Indiana State Championships during his junior season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Purdue University! I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, and family for all of their support. Purdue offers an opportunity for me to excel both in my studies and in the pool. I chose Purdue University because of the great team culture Coach Ross and Coach Barnes have created. I can’t wait to be a part of the Purdue Men’s Swimming family. Boiler up!”
His best times include:
- 500 free – 4:39.03
- 1000 free – 9:49.10
- 1650 free – 16:29.63
- 200 fly – 1:56.25
Seaver will add valuable distance freestyle depth to Purdue’s lineup when he arrives in West Lafayette as a member of the class of 2024. Although he’s not in scoring range at the Big Ten Championships just yet, he has continuously made improvements each season and will have two years of overlap with top returning miler David Forsyth.
