Psych Sheets Out for Arena Pro Swim Series Austin

USA Swimming has released the psych sheets for the first stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series, scheduled for Jan. 13-15 (Fri. through Sunday) in Austin, Texas.

Among the headliners in their respective events, 16-year-old Canadian Penny Oleksiak will head south to compete, and she will be the top seed in the women’s 100 free, the event in which she won the Olympic gold medal, and in the 100 fly, where she picked up a silver in Rio. She will also be seeded second behind U.S. Olympian Melanie Margalis in the 200 free.

Other members of the U.S. Olympic team on the psych sheet include Ryan Held (top seed in men’s 100 free), Hali Flickinger (Top seed in women’s 200 fly), Josh Prenot (top seed in men’s 200 breast), Jacob Pebley (top seed in men’s 200 back) and Amanda Weir (second seed in women’s 50 free and 100 free).

Matt Grevers, who missed making the Olympic team by one spot in the 100 back this summer, will return to competition for the first time since Olympic Trials, and he will be the top seed in the men’s 100 back ahead of Pebley and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Arkady Vyatchanin.

Japan will have a sizable contingent on hand led by 400 IM Olympic bronze medalist Daiya Seto, and other Canadian Olympic medalists on hand include Taylor Ruck and Hilary Caldwell. Short Course World Champions Simonas Bilis and Michael Andrew are also entered in multiple events.

Texas A&M’s Bethany Galat and Lisa Bratton, both third place finishers at Olympic Trials, are entered in the meet, as is former Aggie and 2012 Olympian Breeja Larson.

Austin-native and Short Course 400 IM national champion Sean Grieshop will be seeded second to Seto in his signature event, and U.S. National Junior Team members Alex WalshRegan BarneyEva Merrell and Lucie Nordmann will all be in town as well.
