On the Cover

The English Channel represents one of the most formidable challenges for a swimmer. Besides the great distance involved, constant weather and current changes make it an even greater threat, adding to the legendary aura that has been built up around it. One man who conquered the challenge two years ago, Mike McGee, shows how he and Dr. Ignacio Ripoll used science and technology in preparing for that crossing, from using CAT scans to determine body fat, to determining approximate total caloric loss and needed intake during the swim.
