Princeton Tigers Earn Verbal From Metroplex’s Amelia Liu
NEW COMMIT: Frisco, Texas’ Amelia Liu has given her verbal commitment to Princeton University and will join the Tigers next fall.
Liu does her club swimming with Metroplex Aquatics and owns a pair of U.S. Open standards. She capped off an extremely successful long course season with an 11th-place showing in the 50m and free and a 13th-place finish in the 200m free at Junior Nationals. She had six top-5 finishes at the American LCM meet and earned 100% best times at both College Station Sectionals in March and Juniors West last winter. Also swimming for Frisco Reedy High School, Liu is a two-time USA Scholastic All-American.
She told Swimming World:
“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to the application process at Princeton University. Princeton offers incredible academic opportunities and an amazing swim program, and I will gratefully attend if admitted. Thank you to my coaches, family, and friends who have supported me along the way. Go Tigers!!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.53
- 100 free – 50.99
- 200 free – 1:50.57
- 500 free – 4:57.26
- 200 IM – 2:06.23
Liu will look to translate her recent long course success into the upcoming short course season and will add valuable depth to Princeton’s sprint group when she suits up for the Tigers as a member of the class of 2023. She would’ve scored in the C-final of 50, 100 and 200 freestyles at the 2018 Ivy League Championships.
*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
