Ryan Murphy came out on top of a loaded 100 backstroke field this evening. After earning his place in Rio, he spoke at a press conference.
The 20 year old opened emphasizing how ready he was for an “exciting meet” after a string of spring competitions which he considered to be “boring.”
Murphy was a bit disappointed with coming up short of the world record tonight and believes there is more left in the tank for Rio. He spoke about his excitement for the international competition he’ll face later this summer and the environment this week in Omaha.
The Cal swimmer did reveal that he will not swim tomorrow’s 100 freestyle and will now turn his attention to the 200 backstroke.
