Popov Makes It a Double in Rome
ROME, June 1. Russia's Alex Popov completed his sprint double today on the final day of the Seven Hills Meet in Rome, stop four on the Mare Nostrum tour. The "Czar" clocked 49.85 to win the 100 free, just ahead of Algeria's Salim Iles. Yesterady Popov took the 50 in 22.36.
Australia's Grant McGregor swam a seasonal best 2:01.93 to win the 200m IM, easily downing Romania's Cezar Badita at 2:03.97.
Romanian distance ace Coman Dragos took the 1500 free in 15:14.29, to complete his 400/1500 double. In the 100 breast, Italy's Domenico Fioravanti coimpleted his 100/200 double by winning in 1:02.75, comfortably ahead of America's Dave Denniston.
Ukraine's Yana Klochkova waltzed to another women's individual medley victory, this time taking the 200 meters in 2:13.95. South Africa's Sarah Poewe was an easy victor in the 100m breast at 1:09.68.
