Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics’ Nico Butera Announces 2021 Verbal to Wisconsin Badgers
NEW COMMIT: The Badgers have a new addition to their class of 2025, recently receiving a verbal commitment from Pittsburgh, Penn. native Nico Butera who will arrive in Madison in the fall of 2021.
Butera does his club swimming with Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics under coach Dave Schraven and owns four Junior National standards. He’s coming off a stellar summer season where he earned 100% best times at NCSAs en route to registering four top-16 finishes. Last winter, he picked up four lifetime bests at NCSAs where his highest finish was an 18th-place showing in the 200 free. He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.
He told Swimming World:
“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Wisconson. I’d like to thank my family, coaches and friends for their support. I can’t wait to be a Badger!”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 21.28
- 100 free – 46.31
- 200 free – 1:39.15
- 100 fly – 50.85
- 200 IM – 1:51.98
Only recently turning 16 years old, Butera has consistently made improvements each season and will surely see more time drops during this short course season after the summer he had. Over the past two years, he has shaved off a second in the 50 free, three in the 100 free/100 fly, six in the 200 free, and 13 seconds in the 200 IM.
