Pitt Starts 2024 Recruiting With Verbal From YMCA National Runner-Up Kimmy Shannon

NEW COMMIT: The University of Pittsburgh has officially begun Class of 2028 recruiting after receiving a verbal commitment from in-stater Kimmy Shannon of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I couldn’t be happier to share my verbal commitment to continue both my academic and athletic careers at the University of Pittsburgh! Thank you to my parents, coaches, teammates, and all of the Pitt Swim and Dive family for making this possible! I can’t wait to be a panther!”

Shannon does her club swimming with Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA and most recently competed at YMCA Nationals where she finished second in the 1000 free in a lifetime best. Last summer, she finished 17th in the 200m back at Geneva Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:51.98
  • 1000 free – 10:01.65
  • 1650 free – 17:23.11
  • 200 back – 1:58.97
  • 200 breast – 2:20.98
  • 200 IM – 2:01.20
  • 400 IM – 4:23.05

Currently a junior at Lewisburg Area High School, Shannon won the 500 free and placed second in the 200 IM at the Pennsylvania 2A State Championships in both 2023 and 2022. She won both of those events as a freshman, and she has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.
