NEW COMMIT: Milton, Ga. native and high school junior Abby Grottle has recently announced her verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh and will join the Panthers as a member of the class of 2024.

Grottle, who owns five Summer Juniors standards, does her club swimming with Swim Atlanta and most recently recorded a pair of lifetime bests at Juniors East in December. She capped off her extremely successful long course season with a 26th-place finish in the mile at Junior Nationals after winning the 200m free with three additional top-10 finishes at Georgia LCM Seniors.

Also competing for Cambridge High School, Grottle is a four-time Georgia 6A State Championship finalist. She won the 500 free and placed third in the 200 free during her sophomore season after taking fifth and 13th, respectively, in those events as a freshman. She has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Pittsburgh! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends who helped me get here! Hail to Pitt! #H2P”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:52.43
  • 500 free – 4:53.19
  • 1000 free – 10:08.13
  • 1650 free – 16:52.35
  • 200 fly – 2:03.06
  • 200 IM – 2:07.89
  • 400 IM – 4:27.00
  • 200m free – 2:04.08 (LCM)
  • 400m free – 4:22.41 (LCM)
  • 800m free – 8:57.67 (LCM)
  • 1500m free – 17:14.05 (LCM)

Although she’s not quite in scoring range just yet at the ACC Championships, Grottle has continuously made improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Panthers and will look to capitalize on an impressive long course season. She’ll also have two years of overlap with Madison Nalls and Kendall Goit.
