Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships: Day 4
Misty Hyman, with the performance of the meet so far, blasted a 59.14 in her specialty, the 100m butterfly. Jenny Thompson, although finishing second, swam a quick 59.55.
Unfortunately, it looks like FINA might bann Hyman’s revolutionary fish-kick by next year (a la the Berkoff Blastoff in 1989). Once again FINA will bring into play the supposed “hazards” of staying underwater for 35m.
Newcomer Nate Dusing won the men’s version of the 100m butterfly.
Chad Carvin continued his comeback with an impressive victory in the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:52.19.
Beth Botsford coasted home in the 100m backstroke in a cool 1:01.94.
Tripp Schwenk edged out Brian Retterer in the 100m backstroke.
Brooke Bennett continued her dominance in the distance events by winning 400m freestyle.
In the 100m breastroke, Amanda Beard and Kurt Grote easily won their specialties.
