Philippines National Junior Record Holder Gian Santos Sends Verbal to Columbia

NEW COMMIT: Columbia University has received a verbal commitment* for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Gian Santos of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

Internationally, Santos represents the Philippine Swimming Federation. He holds the 400m IM national junior record in the Philippines.

He competed at the FINA World Junior Championships this past summer, finishing as high as 23rd in prelims of the 400m IM. He also raced at the event in 2022.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:38.48
  • 500 free – 4:29.45
  • 200 IM – 1:52.32
  • 400 IM – 3:57.02

Santos, who trains year-round with Irvine Novaquatics, competed at Junior Nationals this year as well, earning four best times. He placed 12th in the 400 IM, 15th in the 200 IM and 16th in the 500 free at Carlsbad Sectionals in March.

Currently a senior at Tesoro High School, Santos serves as team captain. He finished fourth in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free at the CIF Southern Section Championships as a junior.
