Phenix Signs National Letter-of-Intent to Swim at University of Texas

AUSTIN, TX – Ohio prep star Erin Phenix (Cincinnati, Ohio / Ursuline Academy) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to enroll at the University of Texas and swim for head coach Jill Sterkel starting in the 1999-2000 season.
Phenix was the Spring 1997 U.S. Junior National Champion in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.61 seconds, and owns a career-best time of 23.47 in that event. She also owns career-best times of 51.41 in the 100-yard freestyle and 1:51.98 in the 200 freestyle. She was also the Ohio high school 1998 State Champion in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
Phenix is the third swimmer to commit to Texas in the November early signing period. On Wednesday, Amanda Gullick (Mira Loma, Calif. / Jurupa Valley HS) and Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif. / Dublin HS) announced they would join the Longhorn swimming squad.
Wednesday was the first allowable November early signing day for prospective student-athletes to sign with schools. The Fall signing period continues through Wednesday, Nov. 18.
