Performance of the Week: Mallory Comerford Shines At SMU Classic
This week’s Performance of the Week goes to Mallory Comerford for her remarkable 46 second relay split at the 2018 SMU Classic last week.
The senior from Louisville opened up the 2018 SMU Classic with a standout split in the 4×100 medley relay. Diving in for the anchor leg, Comerford out split the rest of the field by more than 1.5 seconds when she threw down a 46.86 to secure a win for the Cardinals along with teammates Alina Kendzior (52.86), Mariia Astashkina (1:00.50) and Grace Oglesby (51.23).
That is some remarkable early season speed for the senior. For reference, only Comerford and Simone Manuel split sub-47 on the 4×100 medley relays at NCAA’s last season, and with Manuel turning pro there is an even clearer path for Louisville to be contending for a national championship in this event.
The senior would go on to win three individual events during the meet (100, 200, and 500 free), and while Comerford was a touch faster in her individual events at last season’s meet she still is ranked #1 in the country across all 3 events.
Congratulations Mallory Comerford on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!
