Performance of the Week: Maggie Macneil Sets New Michigan Record In Dual Meet
This week’s Performance of the Week goes to Michigan’s Maggie Macneil for her 100 butterfly at this weekend’s dual meet against Northwestern.
MacNeil, who is just a freshman, put up an incredible 51.49 in the 100 fly to win the race by four seconds and break Michigan’s pool and school records. That knocked more than two-tenths off of both records; the school record was a 51.71 from 2017, set by current junior Vanessa Krause, while the pool record was a 51.72 set by Ohio State’s Liz Li at the 2016 Big Ten Championships.
Her swim was within half a second of the NCAA A cut, and makes her the fastest woman in the country so far this season, just ahead of USC’s Louise Hansson (51.56) and Louisville’s Grace Ogelsby (51.65). You can check out her swim below:
