Pennsylvania 3A State Champion Shane Eckler Picks Notre Dame
NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has received a new verbal commitment for Fall 2024 from U.S. Open qualifier Shane Eckler of Delco, Pennsylvania.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m stoked to announce that I’ll be joining the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame next fall! Shout out to all my friends, family, coaches, and teammates who’ve supported me! #GoIrish”
Eckler does his club swimming with Ridley Area YMCA and placed fourth in both the 50m back and 100m free at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer, also taking fifth in the 50m free and seventh in the 50m fly. He was an A-finalist in two events at YMCA SCY Championships back in the spring, racing to fourth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 fly.
His best times include:
- 100 fly – 48.80
- 50 free – 20.14
- 100 free – 44.21
- 100 back – 49.43
Currently a senior at Ridley High School, Eckler swept the 50/100 free at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championship in 2023. That was a big improvement from his sophomore season when he finished 31st and 14th, respectively.
