Penn State Sweeps In-State Dual Meet With Villanova
Two wins each by Morgan Rinn, Abby Henderson and Julia Meisner led the Penn State women sailing to a win over Villanova on Friday night in a Nittany Lions sweep.
The women’s team claimed a 183-106 victory. The men prevailed, 179.5-111.5.
Rinn won twice in the front half of the meet, capturing the 1,000 freestyle and 200 butterfly. Meisner prevailed in the 200 free and the 500 free.
Penn State won the first three women’s events, including a 1-2 with Henderson and Catherine Meisner in the 100 backstroke. Henderson later won the 200 back, back-to-back with a runner-up finish in the 100 free, which was won by Meisner. Penn State also went 1-2 in the 50 free, via Cat Stanford and Liv Jack. Emma Harvey edged Catherine Meisner to win the 100 fly, Ellie Brandbergh won the 200 IM and Abbie Amdor finished second in the 100 breaststroke and the 500 free. Daphne Wils prevailed in both diving events.
Villanova got a pair of wins from Winnie Jalet. She went 1:04.42 to take home the 100 breast and 2:18.83 in the 200 breast.
The men’s team was led by the Nittany Lions’ freestyle prowess. Mariano Lazzerini led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 free with a time of 21.46. Victor Baganha did the same in the 100 free. Third in that event was Eduardo Cisternas, who won the 200 free in a podium sweep.
Lazzerini added a win in the 200 breast. Baganha claimed the 100 fly, with Cisternas third.
The race of the day came in the 500 free, with Penn State’s Jack Harvey and Jake McIntyre of Villanova tying for the win in 4:39.60. Harvey was second to Cisternas in the 200.
Cooper Morley won the 200 back for Penn State. Teammate Will Lulek was second in both the 200 back and 200 breast in back-to-back events. Lachlan Byrne (100 back), Tommy Hurley (100 breast), Andrew Christensen (200 fly) and Matthew Bittner (200 IM) added wins for the Nittany Lions. Hayden Elliott won both men’s diving events.
Charlie Hinckley led Villanova off with a win in the 1,000 free, his time of 9:19.33 besting the field by nearly 18 seconds. Nolan Danus was second in the 200 fly and 200 IM.
