USA’s Ella Eastin had a breakthrough swim tonight with a 2:13.12 to win the title. That’s better than her 2:13.66 personal best from last summer’s junior nationals, and gave her a nice capstone to her long course season. Canada’s Mary-Sophie Harvey snared silver with a time of 2:13.77, better than her prelim time of 2:14.71 that led qualifying. USA’s Kim Williams rounded out the podium with a third-place 2:14.18.
Japan’s Sachi Mochida (2:16.21), Australia’s Tianni Gilmour (2:16.68), Japan’s Hiroko Makino (2:16.96), Mexico’s Monika Gonzalez (2:19.55) and Australia’s Meg Bailey (2:19.72) also competed in the finale.
USA’s Leah Stevens chopped a second off her prelim time with a 2:15.26 to win the B final tonight. Japan’s Natsumi Sakai hit the wall second in 2:16.44 with China’s Li Tete earning third in 2:19.25.
China’s Lin Xinlan (2:20.58), Australia’s Minna Atherton (2:21.72), Mexico’s Maria Jimenez (2:22.21), China’s Tang Yuting (2:23.37) and Mexico’s Ana Sofia Revilak (2:28.02) rounded out the B final competitors.

USA’s Andrew Seliskar might not have been able to match his best times in the 1:59s, but he did what he had to for the win tonight as he clocked a 2:00.81. No one else came even close. USA’s Curtis Ogren stopped the clock for second with a time of 2:02.21, while Japan’s Juran Mizohata dropped more than three seconds from his preliminary time with a third-place 2:02.31.
Australia’s Jake Baggaley (2:02.75), New Zealand’s Bradlee Ashby (2:03.28), Canada’s Robert Hill (2:04.68), China’s Zhou Wang (2:06.20) and Australia’s Joachim Bardrum (2:08.79) also put up times in the championship heat.
USA’s Corey Okubo scorched the B final field with a 2:03.37 for the heat win. That’s just off his lifetime best of 2:03.35 from this month’s U.S. Nationals. Mexico’s Mateo Gonzalez placed second in 2:07.09 with teammate Hector Rubalcaba finishing third in 2:07.37.
Japan’s Yuya Sakamoto (2:07.41), Canada’s Anders Klein (2:09.72), Japan’s Fuyu Yoshida (2:11.34) and Fiji’s Epeli Rabua (2:24.16) also competed in the consolation heat, while Mexico’s Andy Song drew a disqualification.

USA’s Paul Powers downed his meet record as well as Caeleb Dressel’s 17-18 U.S. National Age Group record in the 50-meter freestyle with a winning time of 22.20. That performance downed his meet record of 22.24 set this morning, while he also clipped Dressel’s 22.22 from 2013 just a few months before he will turn 19 while swimming at the University of Michigan.

Although her seeded time of 2:24.00 gave an indication that she would smash Kierra Smith’s meet record of 2:25.78 from 2012, Japan’s Runa Imai could not replicate that same speed in the A final as she won in 2:26.04. It was still good enough to win the title by more than two seconds, but not as fast as some might have expected in finals.
Japan’s Manami Chida earned silver with a time of 2:28.47, while USA’s Emily Kopas raced her way to the podium with a third-place time of 2:28.83.
USA’s Lilly King (2:29.83), Canada’s Kelsey Wog (2:32.45), Canada’s Genevieve Robertson (2:33.14), Australia’s Abbey Harkin (2:35.41) and Mexico’s Maria Jimenez (2:31.51) closed out the championship field.
Japan’s Sae Saito had too much for the field in the final 50 meters as she raced her way to the B final win in 2:31.51. That’s still more than a second off her prelim swim of 2:30.05 that had ranked her third, but bumped her to the B final due to the two-per-country rule.
USA’s Leah Stevens, after taking the 200 IM B final, placed second in the 200 breast consolation heat with a 2:33.37. Teammate Jorie Caneta finished third in 2:35.40.
Japan’s Ayaka Tokunaga (2:37.30), Fiji’s Misi Naivalu (3:08.27), Fiji’s Makereta Niumataiwalu (3:10.34) and Fiji’s Amy McGowan (3:17.75) also participated in the B final.

USA’s Sierra Schmidt did what she had to do to win the metric mile title in 16:26.81 this evening. She’s been faster with a 16:24.09 personal best from Nationals this month, but she didn’t need that type of time for the win tonight.
Australia’s Moesha Johnson crushed her seed time of 16:59.53 with a remarkable second-place time of 16:31.96 for silver, while USA’s Isabella Rongione hit the wall third in 16:33.60.
Australia’s Tamsin Cook (16:33.72), Japan’s Chinatsu Sato (16:38.11), USA’s Madison Homovich (16:39.14), Canada’s Alexandra Aitchison (16:46.28) and USA’s Regan Kology (16:48.39) closed out the top eight in the timed final event.

Women’s 400 medley relay
There was no controversy tonight as Team USA’s Amy Bilquist (1:01.52), Lilly King (1:08.03), Hannah Kukurugya (59.13) and Katie Drabot (54.76) not only won the women’s 400-meter medley relay in a meet-record time of 4:03.44, the team also took down the World Junior Record since each of its members were also eligible to set a FINA World Junior Record.
USA’s winning time of 4:03.44 downed the meet record of 4:03.73 set by Team USA in 2010, and also lowered Russia’s World Junior Record of 4:04.48 from last summer’s World Junior Championships. Yes, the realm of WJRs are currently confusing since FINA will only recognize some swims that went through all of the same verification as FINA World Records have to undergo, including drug testing. So, even though the U.S. had a faster Junior Pan Pac time in 2010 than Russia’s now former World Junior Record, it was never recognized as such.
Russia’s Splits:
Daria K. Ustinova – 1:01.29
Anna Belousova – 1:08.74
Svetlana Chimrova – 58.65
Rozaliya Nasretdinova – 55.80
Japan’s Rio Shirai (1:02.37), Runa Imai (1:08.18), Suzuka Hasegawa (58.69) and Rikako Ikee (54.87) gave the U.S. a run, but wound up with silver in 4:04.41. Canada’s Danielle Hanus (1:02.20), Kelsey Wog (1:11.01), Jacomie Strydom (1:00.27) and Mary-Sophie Harvey (55.09) took third in 4:08.57.
