Paul Bergen Junior International: Sarah Sumner Doubles

BEAVERTON, Oregon, December 11. THE first night of short course meter swimming at the Paul Bergen Junior International featured some quick swims by junior swimmers from around the world.
Lindsay Delmar claimed the women's 200 fly in 2:12.06, while Neil O'Halloran touched out Anders McIntyre, 2:00.16 to 2:00.37, in the men's 200 fly.
Genevieve Cantin raced to victory in the women's 100 back, while the men's 100 back produced an exciting finish with the top seven swimmers posting times in the 56-second range. Daniel Jensen touched out Braeden Newton, 56.05 to 56.07, for the win.
Sarah Sumner earned a 55.64 to 55.91 triumph over Jacqueline Keire in the women's 100 free, while Joel Ax led a German 1-2-3 with a 50.29 in the men's 100 free. Jason Marcus (51.13) and Rico Stockmann (51.32) completed the sweep for Germany.
Amanda Reason, who has been sub 30 in the women's 50 breast, settled for a 31.47 in the sprint event for the win. Ashley McGregor placed a bit behind in 31.78. Troy Arnicke cruised to victory in the men's 50 breast with a 28.78. Deanna Matthews topped the women's 400 IM in 4:43.31, while David Dimitrov snagged the men's 400 IM title in 4:17.40.
The 800 free relays were the final events of the evening. Tyra Rooney, Sumner, Brooklynn Snodgrass and Emma Sproule won the women's title in 8:09.75, while Chad Bobrosky, Karl Wolk, Thomas Jobin and James Kendrick took home the men's crown in 7:26.67. The win for Sumner was her second of the night.
