Passages: British Olympian Gary Binfield
ATLANTA, Georgia, March 17. BRITISH Olympian Gary Binfield, who competed for Britain at the 1988 Olympic Games in the backstroke, passed away this weekend.
Binfield, who had been in a leadership role of the Pool Management Group, passed away due to what was originally reported as a massive heart attack while working out at the gym. However, an autopsy revealed that he passed away due to an enlarged heart caused by a virus. He is survived by wife Annika and children Hayden and Emmie.
Binfield swam in college at South Carolina, and coached at both the University of Georgia and Brown University.
