Paris Olympics: Tom Dean To Compete In ‘Strictly Come Dancing’

Three-time Olympic champion Tom Dean has revealed he is set to take to the dancefloor and compete in TV show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ following Paris 2024.

Dean joined James Guy, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott as the quartet reunited to claim an historic victory and win Great Britain’s first swimming gold of Paris 2024 as they defended their Tokyo title.

He follows in the footsteps of Adam Peaty, who competed in the BBC TV show after he won two golds and a silver in Tokyo, before being eliminated in the sixth week.

Dean spoke after the 200IM semis from which he progressed to the final, saying: “I’ve got that coming up in summer which is exciting. Something to look forward to. Once I’ve finished this, I go back home, relax a bit with the family and then we crack on at the end of August which is exciting.

“Wrapping up this Olympic Games, I’d be taking a break anyway because naturally you want to take a break after you’ve had a full Olympic cycle. The opportunity arose and I thought it’d be really exciting to try something a bit different so I’ll be doing that and then straight back into training after it.”

The 24-year-old hadn’t yet spoken to Peaty, who has been recovering from Covid following his silver in the 100m breaststroke, but intended to get some tips.

Of whether he has dancing feet, Dean added: “I’ll guess we’ll find out. I don’t usually do too well out of water in gravity sports so I’ll throw myself into it and I know what a hard day’s training is like so I am looking forward to it.”
