Paris Olympics, Day 6 Prelims Heat Sheet: Kaylee McKeown Returns to Pool in 200 Backstroke
The sixth day of swimming heats at the Paris Olympics begins Thursday at 11 a.m. CEST (5 a.m. ET in the United States) with the women’s 200 breaststroke, men’s 200 backstroke and women’s 200 butterfly.
Kaylee McKeown and Regan Smith renew their rivalry in the 200 back, with world-record holder and defending champion McKeown alongside Smith’s American teammate Phoebe Bacon in the final heat and Smith racing 2023 Worlds bronze medalist Peng Xuwei one heat earlier.
Ten heats of the men’s 50 free will include France’s Florent Manaudou, the 2012 Olympic champion, swimming in lane five of the eighth heat next to Ukraine’s Vladyslav Bukhov. Ben Proud and Josh Liendo are one heat later while Caeleb Dressel makes his individual Paris debut in the final heat next to two-time world champion Cameron McEvoy.
In the men’s 200 IM, Carson Foster races next to 2024 world champion Finlay Knox in heat two, and then Leon Marchand begins his final event in heat three, with Duncan Scott next to him. Defending champion Wang Shun races in the final heat with Tom Dean and Shaine Casas on either side of him.
In the women’s 800 free relay, heavy favorite Australia will swim in the second heat in between Canada and defending champion China while the Americans go one heat earlier.
