The opening final of the night features Summer McIntosh and Regan Smith, already individual medal winners in Paris, will be in the middle lanes for the 200 fly. McIntosh is favored and trying to add to her gold medal from the 400 IM Monday evening. Defending champion Zhang Yufei will swim from lane three, with 2023 Worlds silver medalist Elizabeth Dekkers in lane three.

Hubert Kos is the big favorite in the men’s 200 back final, particularly after 2016 gold medalist Ryan Murphy missed the final in 10th place. He will have Roman Mityukov and Pieter Coetze on either side while Hugo Gonzalez looms from lane eight. Later on the session, 100 breaststroke Olympic champion Tatjana Smith has lane five in the final next to American Kate Douglass, while February’s world champion Tes Schouten will be alongside the favorites.

Australia is the likely winner in the men’s 800 free relay, having qualified more than six seconds clear of the field in prelims over Hungary and China, with the Americans sitting in fourth place and three new swimmers, including Katie Ledecky, likely to join the team at night.

In semifinal action, the top seeds out of the morning Australia’s Cameron McEvoy (50 free), China’s Peng Xuwei (200 back) and Japan’s Daiya Seto (200 IM), with all possible medal contenders advancing.
