Paralympics Day 6: Ihar Boki, Daria Lukianenko Claim World Records, Smith, Crossley Break Para Marks
The 2024 Paralympic Games continued from Paris with the Day 6 finals from La Defense Arena.
Ihar Boki and Daria Lukianenko claimed world records, while several Paralympic records were broken.
Here is a look at the events:
Men’s 100 Backstorke S7 Finals
Ukraine went 1-2 to open the finals season as Yurii Shenhur claim gold with a time of 1:09.51.
Compatriot and world record holder Andrii Trusov took the silver in 1:10.42.
Italy’s Federico Bicelli earned the bronze in 1:12.23.
Men’s 100 Backstroke S9 Finals
Yahor Shchalkanau broke the Paralympic record in the S9 finals of the 100 backstroke, earning the gold medal in 1:00.76.
The neutral athlete broke the mark of 1:01.00 set by Bogdan Mozgovoi in Tokyo.
France’s Ugo Didier took the silver medal in 1:01.48 while Mosgovoi won the bronze in 1:01.93.
Women’s 100 Backstroke S9 Finals
USA’s Christie Raleigh Crossley broke the Paralympic record to earn a gold medal in the 100 backstroke. They finished in 1:07.92 to break the previous mark of 1:09.18 set by Australia’s Ellie Cole in Rio in 2016.
Spain’s Nuria Marques Soto took the silver in 1:09.24 and Brazil’s Mariana Ribeiro earned thebronze in 1:09.27.
Men’s 200 Free S4 Finals
Israel’s Ami Omer Dadaon earned the gold medal in the 200 free S4, getting to the wall in 2:49.26.
Neutral athlete Roman Zhdanov took the silver in 2:53.01 and Japan’s Takayuki Suzuki took the bronze in 2:55.17.
Mexico’s Angel de Jesus Camacho Ramirez broke the Americas record to finish fourth in 2:55.20.
Men’s 50 Butterfly S6 Final
China’s Wang Jingang earned the gold medal in the 50 fly, getting to the wall in 31.24.
Colombia’s Nelson Crispin Corzo took the silver in 31.53 and France’s Laurent Chardard took the bronze in 31.65.
Women’s 50 Butterfly S6 Final
China earned a 1-2 finish in the women’s butterfly S6 with Jiang Yuyan earning the gold medal in 35.03 and Liu Daomin taking the silver in 37.10.
Brazil’s Mayara Do Amaral Petzold took the bronze in 37.51.
Men’s 50 Backstroke S5 Final
China swept the podium in the 50 backstroke in the S5 class.
Yuan Weiji won gold in 32.47, followed by Guo Jincheng (33.02) and Wang Lichao (33.06).
Women’s 50 Backstroke S5 Final
China swept the women’s S5 event as well.
Lu Dong won the gold medal in 37.51. He Shenggao took the silver in 39.93 and Liu Yu won the bronze in 42.37.
Men’s 200 IM SM11 Final
Rogier Dorsman of the Netherlands broke his own Paralympic record to win the 200 IM.
Dorsman finished in 2:18.36, bettering his mark from Toyko of 2:19.02.
Ukraine’s Danylo Chufarov took the silver in 2:19.81.
Czechia’s David Kratochvil won the bronze medal in 2:24.60.
Women’s 200 IM SM11 Final
Daria Lukianenko broke the world record in the women’s 200 IM. The neutral athlete reached the wall in 2:37.77 breaking her old mark of 2:38.47 set in April.
China’s Ma Jia took the silver in 2:38.70 and compatriot Cai Liwen took the bronze in 2:41.83.
Women’s 100 Free S3 Final
USA’s Leanne Smith broke the Paralympic record to win the 100 free S3. She got to the wall in 1:28.91.
Her time beat the previous record of 1:30.07 set by Kazakhstan’s Zulfiya Gabidullina in Rio.
Spain’s Marta Fernandez Infante broke the European record to finish with the silver in 1:30.04.
Australia’s Rachael Watson took the silver in 1:38.92.
Men’s 200 IM SM13 Final
Ihar Boki claimed a world record in the 200 IM SM13 class with a time of 2:02.03.
The neutral athlete broke his own world record of 2:02.70 set in Tokyo.
France’s Alex Portal claimed the silver medal with a swim of 2:06.66.
Neutral athlete Vladimir Sotnikov took the bronze in 2:10.56.
Women’s 200 IM SM13 Final
Italy’s Carlotta Gilli claimed the gold medal in the 200 IM SM13 with a time of 2:24.33.
USA’s Olivia Chambers won the silver medal with a swim of 2:25.90.
Ireland’s Roisin Ni Riain took the bronze in 2:27.47.
Men’s 100 Butterfly S10 Final
Italy’s Stefano Raimondi claimed a gold medal in the 100 fly with a time of 55.02.
Ukraine’s Ihor Nimchenko took the silver in 55.21, while Australia’s Alex Saffy claimed the bronze in 56.61.
Women’s 100 Butterfly S10 Final
Great Britain finished the day with a stellar 1-2 finish in the 100 butterfly S10.
Faye Rogers claimed the gold medal in 1:05.84 to hold off Callie-Ann Warrington, who got to the wall in 1:06.41.
Canada’s Katie Cosgriffe earned the bronze medal in 1:07.22.
