LOS GATOS – Palo Alto Stanford’s Alex Grimes has decided to head to Northwestern University for her collegiate career as she provided head coach Jimmy Tierney a verbal commitment recently.

“I chose Northwestern because the school is everything that I was looking for,” Grimes told Swimming World. “The team is so welcoming, the school has great academics, and the campus is beautiful. GO CATS!”

Grimes is a backstroke/butterfly specialist with her top times coming last December at the 2013 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals.  So, it is exciting to see what she is able to produce a month from now.

Grimes’ top short course backstroke times are a 26.27 in the 50 back, a 55.18 in the 100 back and a 2:00.10 in the 200 back.  She also has a 54.46 in the 100 fly and a 1:59.80 in the 200 fly.

She’s primarily been focused on short course yards, but has some long course talent.  She has a 1:02.50 in the 100-meter fly as well as a 2:19.55 in the 200-meter fly.
