The Pac-12 Conference continues its swimming & diving season with another relatively light week of competition as far as dual meets are concerned.

It is, however, the beginning of the season for the Arizona State Sun Devils. They competed in an intrasquad meet on Sept. 28, which was their only home meet of 2018.

On Friday, the Sun Devils travel across the country to swim at Florida State. The Arizona State men are ranked No. 8, while the Seminoles are No. 20. The Arizona State women are ranked No. 22.

“Our goal, really, is to just keep getting better,” coach Bob Bowman said after the intrasquad meet. “If you look at what we did today, our times were OK. Some events were really good while some events weren’t very good, but we just need to come in next week and use the feedback to just get better.”

A couple Sun Devils achieved NCAA B-Cuts in the scrimmage, including Zach Poti’s winning 100BK and Silja Kansakoski’s winning 100BR. Poti was an honorable mention All-American in that event last year, while Kansakoski won silver in the 100BR at the Pac-12 Championships and was also an All-American last season in that event.

A few notable newcomers made their presence in the pool known in the intrasquad including Indiana transfer Jack Kucharczyk, who won first in the 100BR and the 200BR, while freshman Ruby Martin contributed wins in the 100FL and 200FL and lead off in the winning 400FR relay foursome.

Transfer Cierra Runge also saw collegiate action for the first time in over a year, placing first among the Sun Devils in the 500FR, anchoring the winning foursome in the 400FR relay and taking first in the 1000FR.

There are two other Pac-12 meets this week.

Arizona will swim at Oregon State on Saturday. Meanwhile, UCLA will head to Utah, also on Saturday.
