Oregon State Champion Sydney Wilson Pledges Verbal to Arizona

NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has picked up a new verbal pledge for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Sydney Wilson of Portland, Oregon.

She’ll join Lila Lillie as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2028.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Arizona. Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me throughout this process. I am so excited! Bear Down”

A talented freestyler and backstroker, Wilson trains year-round with Multnomah Athletic Club and most recently raced four events at Junior Nationals where her highest finish was a 27th place showing in the 1500m free. In June, she won the mile at the Mel Zajac International Meet.

She finished 20th in the 1650 free at Juniors West back in December before going on to win the 1000 and take silver in the mile at Federal Way Sectionals in March.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:51.69
  • 500 free – 4:54.03
  • 1650 free – 16:51.70
  • 100 back – 55.71
  • 200 back – 1:59.44
  • 400 IM – 4:19.99

Currently a senior at Jesuit High School, Wilson earned gold in the 500 free and silver in the 200 free at the Oregon 6A State Championships in both 2022 and 2023. She’s also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

By the time Wilson arrives on campus as a freshman, Arizona will be a member of the Big 12 conference.
