Olympics: Heat Sheets Posted For All Eight Days of Swimming Prelims

The Olympic swimming competition will begin Saturday, July 27, with the first six events of preliminary heats: the women’s 100 butterfly, women’s 400 freestyle, men’s 100 breaststroke, men’s 400 freestyle, women’s 400 freestyle relay and men’s 400 freestyle relay.

Day One Prelims Heat Sheet

During the first session, the women’s 100 fly will feature new world-record holder Gretchen Walsh in lane four of the final heat while her fellow Torri Huske and Maggie Mac Neil swim one heat prior, with 2023 world champion Zhang Yufei in heat two. In the women’s 400 free, Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky share the pool in the final heat, a rematch of their showdown at the 2021 Games, while Summer McIntosh is one heat prior.

Five heats of the men’s 100 breast will see Nic Fink in heat three, two-time defending champion Adam Peaty in heat four alongside 2021 bronze medalist Nicolo Martinenghi and world champion Qin Haiyang next to Tokyo silver medalist Arno Kamminga in the final heat. In the men’s 400 free, the last two world champions race in heat four, with Sam Short and Kim Woo-Min, while Lukas Martens and Elijah Winnington race in the final heat.

Relay action will see two heats apiece, with the women’s event having the United States in heat one before Australia, China and Canada, while on the men’s side, Great Britain, Italy and China will race followed by Australia and the United States.
