Olympic Trials Day 1 Prelims Swim-off: Danny Kovac Holds off Benjamin Cono to Reach Semis

It didn’t take long for the first swim-off of the 2024 Olympic Trials.

The men’s 100 breaststroke saw a tie for eighth, which with semifinals, didn’t need a swim-off.

But there was also a tie for 16th, which needed a swim-off for the last spot in the semifinals.

SMU’s Danny Kovac and Benjamin Cono each swam a 1:00.80 in the prelims to set up a second swim to determine the 16th seed in the semis.

They nearly tied again as Kovac finished in 1:00.47.

Cono was just behind in 1:00.50 as three hundredths of a second separated the duo.
