The heat sheets have come out for day one prelims at the Olympic Games in Rio. Events on the docket to be contested during prelims—beginning at 1 p.m. local time—include the men’s 400 IM, women’s 100 fly, men’s 400 free, women’s 400 IM, men’s 100 breast and women’s 400 free relay.

The men’s 400 IM will have a new champion after Americans Tom Dolan (1996 & 2000), Michael Phelps (2004 & 2008) and Ryan Lochte (2012) combined to win the last five Olympic golds. Japan’s Kosuke Hagino and Daiya Seto headline the field, with American Chase Kalisz and Hungary’s David Verraszto giving chase. Click here to view the men’s 400 IM heat sheets.

Sarah Sjostrom highlights the women’s 100 fly. Sjostrom was fourth in the event in London four years ago but has captured three of the last four world titles in the event and broke the world record last year. Also competing are defending gold medalist Dana Vollmer and World Championships runner-up Jeanette Ottesen. For the women’s 100 fly start lists, click here.

Rising stars Mack Horton and James Guy highlight the men’s 400 free along with the previous two gold medalists in the event, Sun Yang and Park Tae Hwan. Start list for the men’s 400 free is available here.

Katinka Hosszu will be going for her first Olympic medal—she hopes gold—in the women’s 400 IM (heat sheets for women’s 400 IM here), and world record-holder Adam Peaty will highlight the men’s 100 breast along with defending gold medalist Cameron van der Burgh (heat sheets for men’s 100 breast here).

The Australians are heavily favored in the women’s 400 free relay, but they figure to face challenges from the U.S., the Netherlands and others. For start lists for the relay, click here.

Do those who swim the heat, but are then replaced in the final, still get a medal? It seems unfair that they work so hard to make a place for some one else to win the medal.
