Olympic Gold Medalist Tom Dolan Recovering From Severe Concussion
ARLINGTON, Virginia, July 12. ACCORDING to sources in the area, two-time Olympic gold medalist Tom Dolan is recovering from a severe concussion suffered July 2 in Virginia.
Dolan slipped and fell outside a friend's house in Gaithersburg, Md., on July 2 and spent a week in the ICU recovering from the head trauma. Dolan is no longer in the ICU, but has spent a week in isolated recovery in order to rest his brain. He has not been able to take phone calls or experience any sort of excited stimulus during his isolation. He is expected to make a full recovery with no permanent damage.
Dolan experienced his biggest success in swimming with back-to-back 400 IM victories at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also took a silver in the 200 IM at the Sydney Games. Dolan previously won the 400 IM world titles at the 1994 and 1998 World Championships in Rome and Perth.
