Olympic Gold Medalist Breeja Larson to Take Part in PBX Pickleball Pro-Am

Olympic gold medalist Breeja Larson will join the lineup of retired pro athletes in the PBX Pickleball Pro-Am in Glendale, Arizona, next month.

Larson will join MLB All-Stars Luis Gonzalez, Brad Penny and Jeff Cirillo as well as Pro Bowl NFL quarterback Jake Plummer at the event, held at Chicken N Pickle in Glendale on Oct. 17. The opportunity to play against the group is limited to 15 fans, who will spend four hours with the athletes in a round-robin format, plus breakfast and lunch shared with the athletes. PBX has partnered with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, the NHL Alumni Association and Parity in an effort to connect with well-known former athletes in a variety of sports.

Information can be found at PBX’s website.

Larson was a member of the gold medal winning 400 medley relay at the 2012 London Olympics. She also won a world title in that event in 2013 and won individual bronze in the 100 breaststroke at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships. Larson won an NCAA title at Texas A&M and continued to compete until retiring in 2021.

She’s not the first swimmer to wade into the pickleball waters: Michael Phelps has teed it up at pickleball events, including a charity match in Arizona in a doubles match with retired NFL player Larry Fitzgerald last year.
