Today the men’s individual springboard will continue and conclude, with both the semifinals and finals taking place. Semis will take place at 9 am local time, and the top twelve divers will advance into finals tonight at 5pm local time.

The preliminaries were plagued by testing wind conditions. Many divers stopped on the board and even requested re-dives due to the weather. Hopefully the wind will die down not only for the rest of the springboard events, but for the upcoming platform events. Wind that divers are finding harsh on three-meter could be detrimental to a ten-meter performance.

Americans Kristian Ipsen and Mike Hixon are both advancing into the semifinals. Ipsen is sitting in third place after a fantasticly consistent showing despite the weather conditions.

Both Mexican divers, Rommel Pacheco and Rodrigo Diego, are headed into semis as well as both Germans, Patrick Hausding and Stephan Feck.

Hausding has had an exciting Olympics, competing in both the synchronized platform and synchronized springboard events prior to individual springboard. He came in fourth on both of his earlier events. Hausding has one silver medal from synchronized springboard in Beijing, and this is his third Olympic games. He is sitting in sixth place after preliminaries, but is still one of the favorites for a place on the podium later today.

The defending gold medalist from Russia Ilia Zakharov will be one to watch as well. With an extremely shaky start to preliminaries he barely made it onto the next round. It would be surprising if the former champion does not come back onto the boards fighting today.

With medals on the line, it should be a long and exciting day for diving.
