Olympic Champion Sun Yang in Rehab After Foot Surgery
BEIJING, China, March 6. AFTER foot surgery that occurred in January that included 20 stitches that came out in February, Olympic champion Sun Yang has not been able to return to the water to train and is currently just rehabbing with dryland activities according to Chinese media reports.
Soon after the stitches came out, Sun resumed dryland training at the national team camp in Beijing, but still has not been able to return to the water as doctors want to keep the healing wound away from the water.
Although details are murky regarding whether Sun is still being banned from competition by the Chinese Swimming Federation for his arrest and subsequent weeklong jail sentence for driving without a license, local media expects that Sun will be back in competition at the National Championships in May, which doubles as the Asian Games Trials.
There’s little doubt China will extend the ban of such a high profile swimmer to include its most prestigious event of the year this year with the Asian Games being this summer in Incheon, South Korea.
