Olympic Champ Tatjana Smith Appears on Social Kick Podcast to Discuss Legendary Career
These days, Tatjana Smith (nee Schoenmaker) is looking forward. Her competitive career now in the rearview mirror following an exceptional career, Smith is eager to embrace opportunities outside of the pool, while also contributing to the sport in which she emerged as a multi-time Olympic champion. Recently, the South African star – whose uplifting personality is contagious – joined the Social Kick Podcast to discuss her career, among other topics.
Smith spoke with Social Kick hosts Bryan Lundquist, Luke Paddington and John Mullen and reviewed her Hall of Fame-worthy career. The Olympic champion in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Olympic Games in Toyko in 2021, Smith returned to the top of the Olympic podium last summer, this time behind a victory in the 100 breaststroke. Shortly after that triumph, Smith announced her decision to retire, albeit while retaining connections to the sport in which she flourished.
In addition to her Olympic achievements, Smith’s Social Kick interview touched on the difficulties that frequently arise as an athlete representing South Africa. She also discussed becoming the most-decorated South African Olympian in history and how she became the first woman from her country to secure a world title.
Smith is the latest South African to join the Social Kick crew, as rising backstroke star Pieter Coetze participated in an interview earlier this month after a highly successful World Cup tour.
Swimming World is thrilled to partner with the Social Kick Podcast to provide fans around the world with superb interviews with some of the sport’s biggest names.
