Olympian Chris Guiliano To Swim at Texas in Wake of Notre Dame Team Suspension
After a couple months of sitting in the NCAA transfer portal, Chris Guiliano has found a new team.
The Olympian and former Notre Dame swimmer has committed to Texas.
Guiliano starred for the Fighting Irish in one of their best seasons, then made the Olympic team – the first Notre Dame swimmer to do so. But the Notre Dame program was suspended for gambling and issues involving team culture.
Now, he will be a Longhorn, swimming for Bob Bowman.
“Hook ‘Em,” Chris Guiliano posted on Instagram. “This process has been extremely difficult, but I’m excited to begin a new chapter of my life. Thank you to Notre Dame for all of the memories and relationships that will last forever. I would not be where I am today without all of you. Fortunately, there is an avenue to complete my degree from the University of Notre Dame, and I’m looking forward to walking at graduation with my class. Go Irish.”
While he will complete his degree with Notre Dame, something he said he wished to do when he entered the portal, he will be in the water with the Longhorns, another elite swimmer that will help Texas compete for an NCAA championship.
Guiliano burst onto the national scene a couple of years ago and his rise was quick. He became the first U.S. swimmer since Matt Biondi in 1988 to qualify for the Olympics in the 50, 100 and 200 free.
