Abbey Weitzeil, Michael Jenson Wed in Cal Celebration

The big year of 2024 continued for Abbey Weitzeil and Michael Jensen, who were married on Saturday.

Weitzeil is coming off of making her third Olympic team and was a relay medalist for Team USA.

She is a three-time Olympian and six-time Olympic medalist, most recently part of the gold-medal mixed medley relay. She was a multi-NCAA champion at Cal and held the NCAA record in the 50 free.

Jensen also was an NCAA champion at Cal, in the 200 free relay in 2019. He was a 14-time All-American for the Golden Bears and part of a family of swimmers at Cal.

The two met as Cal teammates and were engaged in 2022. There were plenty of Cal Golden Bears in attendance from both the men’s and women’s teams celebrating together.

Abbey Weitzeil said that the wedding planning and Olympic training were good breaks from each other and allowed her to focus on the other when needed.

After she missed the team in an individual sprint, she rallied to make her third Olympic team as a relay swimmer.

“I think this year is huge for me in such amazing ways, and I think planning a wedding has been kind of like a getaway for me. I love that kind of stuff. I love organizing and all of that,” Abbey Weitzeil said after making the Olympic team. “It’s been something fun for me to do, and I’ve had a long time to do it so no stress on that. Preparing for this meet has been throwing everything I have into the pool every day. My 100 isn’t something I was expecting for, wanting, so it did take me a day to reset, take a breath, appreciate what I have done, get myself on the team again and move on to my next race.”
