Olé! UC Santa Barbara Picks Up In-State Verbals from Kyle Brill, Matthew Driscoll

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Santa Barbara has scored a pair of in-state verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Santa Clarita, Calif. native Kyle Brill and Matthew Driscoll of Los Gatos, Calif.

Both Junior National qualifiers will suit up for the Gauchos as a member of the class of 2025. Under head coach Matt Macedo, UCSB finished third overall at the 2020 MPSF Championships.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m super proud to announce my verbal commitment to UCSB! I’m so excited to go to such an amazing school! Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for their support. Go Gauchos! Olé!”

A talented breaststroker and IMer, Brill does his club swimming with Canyons Aquatic Club and most recently placed sixth in the 400 IM at Carlsbad Sectionals after earning four best times at Juniors West in December. Last summer, he finished 21st in the 100m breast and 22nd in the 200m breast at Mount Hood Futures.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.44
  • 200 breast – 2:02.97
  • 200 IM – 1:51.72
  • 400 IM – 3:58.17

Also competing for Hart High School, Brill raced to 12th at the 100 breast at the CIF Southern DI Section Championship during his sophomore season. He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

MATTHEW DRISCOLL

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at UC Santa Barbara. A special thanks to my teammates, coaches, and family who have supported me along the way. Go Gauchos!!”

Primarily a backstroker and freestyler, Driscoll swims year-round with De Anza Cupertino Aquatics and last posted a pair of top-10 finishes at College Station Sectionals. He placed 12th in the 500 free and 17th in the 200 free at Juniors West and competed in six events at Junior Nationals last summer.

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 45.65
  • 200 free – 1:38.28
  • 500 free – 4:25.67
  • 100 back – 49.08
  • 200 back – 1:47.43
  • 200 IM – 1:49.89

A rising senior at Los Gatos High School, Driscoll finished seventh in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 back as a sophomore at the CIF State Championships. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also collected bronze in both of those events at the  CIF Central Coast Section meet in 2019.
