Ohio State Swims Past DIII Power Denison in Instate Battle

The No. 11 women’s swimming and diving team and No. 12 men’s swimming and diving team defeated Denison on Friday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The women defeated the Big Red, 180-115, and the men won, 182-116.

Ohio State Women’s Meet Notes

  • The Buckeyes opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Susie Lee, Ava DeAngelis, Nyah Funderburke and Erin Little finishing in 1:41.50.
  • Sienna Angove (4:53.12), Gwen Woodbury (4:55.10) and Lucy Malys (4:57.09) finished 1-2-3 in the 500 free.
  • Mila Nikanorov won the 200 free, touching the wall at 1:49.95. Elise Nardozzi (1:51.48) placed second and Julia Bartoszewicz (1:53.36) placed third.
  • Funderburke swam a 24.73 in the 50 back to win the event. Teresa Ivan (26.19), Krista Marlin (26.44) and Annie Krusinski (26.58) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
  • DeAngelis took the top spot in the 50 breast with a time of 29.19.
  • Paige Hall (55.44), Jessica Eden (56.01) and Tia Lindsay (56.98) went 1-2-3 in the 100 fly.
  • Ivan won the 50 free with a time of 23.08 for Ohio State. Little (23.25) was second, Rachel Bockrath (23.28) was third and Maria Ramos (23.59) was fourth.
  • Paola Pineda Vazquez won the 3-meter dive with a score of 341.10. Michelle Mazzara (329.40) placed second and Mia Prusiecki (310.80) placed third. All three scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
  • Little was the winner of the 100 free with a time of 50.33. Nardozzi (52.57) was second and Erin Fentress (53.36) was third.
  • Hall picked up another win in the 100 back, touching the wall at 55.20. Bockrath (55.38) and Marlin (55.85) finished second and third.
  • In the 1-meter dive, Pineda Vazquez once again earned the win. She had a score of 339.30. Prusiecki (279.38) and Mazzara (267.60) placed second and third, respectively. All three of their scores qualify them for NCAA Zones.

Ohio State Men’s Meet Notes

  • The 200 medley relay team of Brody Marcet, Will Bansberg, Matt Klinge and Daniel Baltes picked up the first win of the night for the men, turning in a time of 1:29.94.
  • Jordi Vilchez picked up his first collegiate win, taking first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:28.20.
  • The 200 free went to Alex Metzler; he touched the wall at 1:36.79. Cornelius Jahn (1:38.66), TJ Frost (1:39.36) and Sam Campbell (1:41.43) followed Vilchez.
  • Jo Roth earned his first collegiate win, placing first in the 50 back with a time of 23.40 for Ohio State. The next four finishers were Caleb Ellis (23.60), Krys Gorski (23.73), Baltes (24.33) and Xavier Washington (24.59).
  • Karl Helmuth won the 50 breast with a time of 25.62. Rylan McDaniel placed second with a time of 25.78.
  • Vilchez (49.76), Eli Stoll (50.07), Mario McDonald (50.12) and Bansberg (50.16) finished 1-2-3-4 in the 100 fly.
  • Klinge placed second in the 50 free with a time of 20.84 and Tim Brown placed third with a time of 21.15.
  • On the 3-meter springboard, Kylie Flory was the winner with a score of 369.38. Dom Roberto (343.50) placed second and Tyler Read (313.20) placed third. All three scores qualify them for NCAA Zones.
  • Jahn won the 100 free with a time of 45.28. Second place went to Evan Fentress (45.34), third was Vilchez (45.62) and fourth was TJ Frost (45.75).
  • Roth earned another victory for Ohio State, this time in the 100 back with a time of 49.08. Bansberg placed second with a time of 50.45 and Luke Paxton placed third with a time of 50.59.
  • McDaniel took first place in the 100 breast, finishing in 55.41.
  • Flory was also victorious on the 1-meter board with a score of 353.93. Read (339.30) was second and Roberto (307.35) was third. All three scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.

Up Next for Ohio State

  • Next week, the Buckeyes hit the road, heading to Blacksburg, Va. for a two-day dual meet against Virginia Tech Nov. 1-2. Events will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
