Ohio State Swimming Sweeps Rival Michigan in Big Ten Showdown

The Ohio State men’s and women’s swimming and diving team swept rival Michigan on Saturday at home.

The Ohio State women won 178-103 and the men won 149-132.

In the men’s meet, Ohio State’s Charlie Clark won the 1000 freestyle in 9:00.94 and 500 free in 4:23.56. Tomas Navikonis won the 200 free in 1:35.62. Ruslan Gaziev won the 100 back in 46.77, a B cut, and the 100 free (43.21). Tyler Ray won the 200 fly in a B cut 1:44.38. Tristan Jankovics won the 200 back (1:44.68) and 200 IM (1:45.95). Lyle Yost won 1-meter diving with 402.60 points.

Navikonis, Mario McDonald, Shaw Satterfield and Gaziev won the 400 free relay (2:55.75).

Michigan’s Jack Wilkening, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Ray and Bence Szabados won the 200 medley relay in 1:26.08.

Szabados won the 50 free in 19.70. Ansel Froass won the 100 breast (54.74) and 200 breast (1:58.13). Camero Gammage won 3-meter diving (385.95). Ray won the 100 butterfly (46.58).

In the women’s meet, Ohio State opened with a win in the 200 medley relay as Nyah Funderburke, Hannah Bach, Katherine Zenick and Teresa Ivan got to the wall in 1:37.07.

The Buckeyes went 1-2 in the event to set the tone.

Ivan won the 50 free in 22.53, going 1-2 with Zenick (22.54), just a hundredth of a second separating the teammates. Amy Fulmer won the 100 free in 48.85. Zenick won the 100 fly in 53.50, a B cut, going 1-2 with Morgan Kraus (53.61).

Ohio State’s Gwen Woodbury won the 1000 free (9:49.34). Josie Panitz won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.06), a B cut and the 200 breast in 2:12.46 and the 200 IM in 2:00.96. Janie Boyle won 3-meter diving (320.25). Maya Geringer won the 500 free in 4:49.10.

Zenick, Tristan Harrison, Fulmer and Ivan won the 400 free relay in 3:16.43.

Michigan’s Stephanie Balduccini won the 200 free in 1:46.95, a B cut. Casey Chung won the 100 back (53.24), also a B cut, and the 200 back (1:57.09). Hannah Bellard won the 200 fly in a B cut 1:58.41. Evie Johnson won 1-meter diving (298.13).
