NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has successfully kept in-state standout Sam Campbell of Dayton close to home for his college career after the Junior National qualifier committed to the Buckeyes.

He will join Everett Oehler and Mason Edmund as a member of the Buckeyes’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m glad to be able to finally announce my verbal commitment to The Ohio State University! I am grateful for my parents, my club and high school coaches, and the coaches at OSU for putting so much confidence in me as an athlete. It has been a long and difficult process (especially in this pandemic year!) but I am excited to say that I am thrilled with my decision and ready to pursue my swimming and academic career with Ohio State. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and my classmates!”

Campbell, who does his club swimming with the Dayton Raiders, picked up seven best times at Indianapolis Sectionals in March after placing second in the 500 free at the 18&U Winter Championships – Oxford. He also raced three events at Juniors East in 2019 and finaled in the 200m back at Geneva Futures that summer.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:43.11
  • 500 free – 4:30.98
  • 100 back – 50.48
  • 200 back – 1:48.93
  • 400 IM – 3:58.96

A rising senior at Oakwood High School, Campbell is a six-time Ohio State Championship finalist. He earned gold in the 500 free and bronze in the 100 back as a junior while taking second and fifth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts in the classroom.

Under head coach Bill Dorenkott, Ohio State finished third at the 2021 Big Ten Championships behind Michigan.
