Ohio 50 Free State Champion Caroline Porterfield Gives 2021 Verbal to Georgia Tech
NEW COMMIT: Georgia Tech has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Caroline Porterfield of Columbus, Ohio.
She will join Kiah Smith, Sabina Mrzyglod and Kendal Chunn as a member of the Yellow Jackets’ Class of 2026.
She told Swimming World:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Georgia Tech! I want to thank my family, coaches and friends who have been by my side throughout this process. I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team. #GOJACKETS”
A talented sprinter, Porterfield trains year-round with Upper Arlington Swim Club and earned three best times at the Oxford 18&U Winter Championships in December. In Summer 2019, she earned 100% best times at Ohio LCM Seniors before going on to race four events at Geneva Futures.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.15
- 100 free – 51.21
- 200 free – 1:53.73
- 500 free – 5:05.21
- 100 fly – 56.21
- 100 breast – 1:05.61
- 200 IM – 2:05.99
Currently a junior at Upper Arlington High School, Porterfield won the 50 free and placed fifth in the 100 free last month while taking 11th in the former event during her sophomore season. She is also a six-time OHSAA Sectional finalist.
Even with 1.5 years to go before arriving in Atlanta in the fall of 2022, Porterfield will add valuable depth both individually and on relays. She would be their second-fastest 50 freestyler on their lineup this past season, as well as rank No. 4 in the 100 fly and No. 5 in the 100 free.
