Victor Polyakov Wins Four As West Chester And NYU Split

Women’s Meet
The sixth ranked NYU women were dominant Saturday afternoon against West Chester, scoring 204 points to the Golden Rams’ 82.
The Violets’ team of May Li, Krista Traub, Isabelle Kitze, and Elise Gibbs claimed the 200 medley relay (1:48.91). NYU freshmen took the top two spots in the 1000 freestyle. Haley Wen touched first (10:24.47) and Grace Wakabayashi (10:38.14) was second. Wen went on to claim the 500 (5:07.36). Her teammates swept the 200 freestyle as well. Noel Leung was first (1:56.30), ahead of Hannah Bergh (1:57.67) and Serena Yan (1:58.39).
Li was first to the wall in the 100 backstroke (58.75). Her teammate Ashley Corley stopped the clock at 1:08.83 to win the 100 breaststroke. Three Violets were within a second of each other in the 200 butterfly, though Annie Driscoll was first to the wall (2:14.04).
Kitze lead a sweep of the 50 freestyle with her time of 24.41, while Leung posted a 53.68 to lead a sweep of the 100 freestyle. The top spot in the 200 backstroke went to freshman Emma Lockman (2:08.47). Kitze lead another NYU sweep, stopping the clock at 57.83 in the 100 butterfly.
West Chester’s Emelie Johansson won the 200 breaststroke with a swift 2:25.58. After NYU went exhibition, she went on to claim the 200 IM (2:13.63). Her teammates Emily Stang, Morgan Haney, Sydney Wareham, and Tess Hayward won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:45.51.
Men’s Meet
The results were flipped on the men’s side as Division 2 West Chester totaled 178 points and the Violets scored 121. The Golden Rams topped the first two events. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Michael O’Brien, Thomas McCormick, Luke Maguire, and Evan Sherkness posted a time of 1:34.33. Victor Polyakov was first to the wall in the 1000 by nearly half a minute (9:17.82). The junior went on to win the 200 backstroke (1:53.31) and the 500 freestyle (4:39.33).
NYU’s Max Phillips turned the momentum, winning the 200 freestyle (1:42.14). But, West Chester won the next four events, beginning with Dan Sokman in the 100 backstroke (52.29). His teammate Michael Oliver claimed the 100 (57.00) and 200 (2:05.41) breaststrokes. Eric Long won the 200 butterfly (1:54.48). Sherkness touched first in the 50 freestyle (21.51).
NYU’s Chad Moody was the winner of the 100 freestyle (47.01).
West Chester rounded out the afternoon’s efforts, winning the last three events. Maguire claimed the 100 butterfly (50.80). McCormick was first in the 200 IM (1:55.85) and the team of Sherkness, Bradley Strathmeyer, Sokman, and Polyakov stopped the clock at 3:07.42 in the 400 freestyle relay.
