NYU Lands Commitment From SJAC’s Jake Haines
NEW COMMIT: Jake Haines has given his verbal commitment to swim for New York University beginning in the 2018-2019 season. He’ll be a student at the Stern School of Business. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a senior at Lenape High School in Medford, New Jersey. There, the two time captain recently broke the school record in the 100 fly with a 51.62. Haines does his club swimming with South Jersey Aquatic Club under Coach Adam Ritchie.
A three time USA Swimming Winter Junior Nats qualifier, Haines’ best times are:
- 200 Breast 2:03.39
- 100 Breast 57.41
- 200 Fly 1:50.98
- 100 Fly 51.12
- 400 IM 4:02.85
- 200 IM 1:53.94
- 1650 Free 16:20.24
- 500 Free 4:41.58
Haines said of his decision,
“After visiting the campus and having a tour with Coach Miele, I have decided to commit to NYU’s Stern School of Business. NYU’s Stern School is one of the top business programs in the nation, who, on average, only accept approximately 11% of student applicants, and I am looking forward to a stellar Business program and swimming for Coach Miele.”
Haines should be a significant contributor to the Violets. At last year’s UAA Championships he would have finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke. He’ll find a great training partner in Reid Hensen (2:02.37) who will be a senior next fall. He also would have been seventh in the 200 butterfly, and NYU’s top finisher in the event. Haines also would have finished eighth in the 400 IM. He’s on the brink of NCAA Division III qualifying in all three of those events. He’d also be a 100 fly and 100 breast B finalist.
Hey, thanks for publishing! :p
Enlightening
Reid Hensen is not on NYU roster.
