Ashley Heineman has committed to swim for New York University beginning in the fall. The high school senior attends Millbrook High School in Raleigh, NC and swims for Ed Lower at New Wave Swim Team. Heineman is an NCSA Junior Nationals qualifier and primarily a breaststroker.
Her best times are:
- 50 Breast 30.79
- 100 Breast 1:06.06
- 200 Breast 2:23.03
- 50 Free 24.79
At this year’s North Carolina 4A high school state championship Heineman won the consolation final of the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.13. She also swam the breaststroke leg (29.61) of the team’s fifth place 200 medley relay.
She said of her decision,
“I am so excited to announce my commitment to New York University! I’m so thankful for my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me get here. I cannot wait to continue my academic and athletic career in Manhattan for the next four years!”
The Violets finished second at this year’s UAA Championships. With her best time, Heineman would have been a 100 breaststroke B finalist. When she moves to Manhattan next fall she’ll have great training partners in Honore Collins (1:05.28), Elle Tucker (1:06.68), and Kathy Lin (1:07.09). She’ll also add great depth to the breaststroke group that will graduate two A finalist seniors this spring.
