Nyls Korstanje, Caspar Corbeau & Kira Toussaint Among Eight-Strong Netherlands Team For Short-Course Worlds
Nyls Korstanje and Caspar Corbeau were named on an eight-strong Netherlands for next month’s World Short-Course Championships in Budapest.
The team comprises four men and four women for the meet that runs from 10-15 December at the Duna Arena with the eight selected following their performances at the Drachten Qualification Meet (DQM) in October or at one of the World Cup stops.
Marrit Steenbergen, Tes Schouten and Arno Kamminga had already indicated at an earlier stage they would skip the World Short Course Championships and opted for a longer rest period after the Olympics.
Korstanje is coming off a fine World Cup series where he was second behind Noè Ponti in the 50 and 100 fly at each of the three stops in Shanghai, Incheon and Singapore.
His time of 21.74 in the shorter race in Singapore was a Netherlands record and elevated him to second all-time behind only Ponti who holds the four fastest times in history, topped by his 21.50 WR, with the pair set to renew acquaintance in Budapest.
The 25-year-old, who also set a Dutch standard of 48.99 in the 100 fly, already owns three world short-course medals from Windsor 2016 and Melbourne 2022.
Corbeau made the 200m breaststroke podium at each of the three stops, signing off his programme with gold in Singapore. His trip to Budapest will conclude a fine year in which he Olympic bronze as well as two silvers at the Doha worlds in February.
Also selected is Kira Toussaint who has five world short-course medals to her name.
