NSW STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: Emma McKeon 53.46 and Kyle Chalmers 48.36 Sizzle In 100m Freestyle Preliminaries
Olympic champions Emma McKeon and Kyle Chalmers have flown off the blocks in the opening day’s 100m freestyle heats of the NSW State Championships – McKeon stopping the clock in 53.46 and Chalmers at 48.36, respectively.
Both are top qualifiers – 2020 Tokyo golden girl McKeon (Griffith University, QLD) leading 2023 World Champion Mollie O’Callaghan (St Peters Western, QLD) 53.97, Milla Jansen (Bond, QLD) 54.89 and Bronte Campbell (Cruiz, ACT) 54.91 into tonight’s final.
While 2016 Rio gold medallist and Tokyo silver medallist, Chalmers powered his way down lane four of the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, ahead of his fellow Commonwealth Games relay gold medalist from Birmingham, 2022, in SOPAC Swim Team’s Will Yang 48.62 and Chalmers Marion, SA teammate and fellow Olympian Matt Temple in 49.50.
