NOVA of Virginia Aquatics’ Jacob Oberle Announces Verbal Commitment to Penn State
NEW COMMIT: Richmond, Va. native Jacob Oberle has verbally committed to Penn State University and will join the Nittany Lions in the fall of 2020.
Oberle, who owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 back, swims year-round with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and most recently raced four events at Virginia LCM Seniors. Last winter, he competed in both backstroke events at Junior East and recorded a pair of best times at NCSAs.
Also competing for Mills E. Godwin High School, Oberle is a three-time Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. He placed 10th in the 100 back as a junior after finishing 14th in that event during his sophomore season. He also took 16th in the 200 free during his rookie campaign.
He told Swimming World:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Penn State University. I would like to thank my family, coaches, and everyone who helped me get to this point in my swimming career. I am beyond excited to become a Nittany Lion, WE ARE!”
His best times include:
- 50 back – 23.80
- 100 back – 50.73
- 200 back – 1:50.09
- 100 fly – 51.80
When he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024, Oberle will add valuable backstroke depth to a training group that’ll be led by Michael Daly. Although he’s just shy of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season with a year to go before suiting up for Penn State.
