Northwestern Earns Verbal From Colorado 4A State Champ Ryan King
NEW COMMIT: Northwestern University has earned a verbal pledge from Montrose, Colorado’s Ryan King who will bring his distance freestyle talents to the Wildcats next fall.
King swims year-round with Montrose Marlins Swim Club and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts. He capped off his summer season with two top-15 finishes at Junior Nationals after winning a trio of events at Colorado Senior LCM Championships. He was the 1000 free runner-up at Juniors West last December and won both the 1000 and mile at the Longhorn Aquatics Super Sectional meet.
King also swims for Montrose High School and is a six-time Colorado 4A State Championship finalist. He won the 500 free and placed fourth in the 200 free as a junior after placing second and sixth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore campaign. King has also earned NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.
He told Swimming World:
“I want to first thank everyone who has gotten me this far in my swimming and academic career: my coach, my family, my friends and all the coaches I’ve talked to throughout the process. And secondly, I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Northwestern University! Go Cats!”
His best times include:
- 500 free – 4:29.53
- 1000 free – 9:09.18
- 1650 free – 15:22.33
- 400 IM – 4:01.08
King will be incredibly valuable when he arrives on-campus for the 2019-20 season and will join a distance training squad led by DJ Hwang and Liam Gately. King’s fastest mile time would’ve placed 17th at last season’s Big Ten Championships.
