North Texas Wins Own North Texas Relays
SOUTHLAKE, Texas, September 26. THE Mean Green swimming and diving squad took first place at the North Texas Relays on Friday with an overall score of 404, barely edging out Tulane (400) and SMU (392).
North Texas had several strong performances en route to the victory. The team claimed top three finishes in each of the match’s ten events, including top times in two races.
“We just had excellent performances across the board,” coach Brendon Bray said. “It was great to see everyone contribute, especially our long distance swimmers who hadn’t had a chance to compete yet.”
Perhaps the most notable finish of the day for the Mean Green came in the 400-yard medley relay when the group of Krista Rossum, Mona Groteguth, Ashley Payne and Sydney Buckley finished in a time of 3:59.79, more than six seconds ahead of a second-place SMU squad.
The diving team also competed for the first time this season. The tandem of Samantha Scheck and Jasmine Abercrombie took third place in the one-meter dive.
“It’s so great to see our divers perform,” Bray said. “They competed in an alternative event today with a lot of adversity and had a great meet.”
North Texas returns to the pool in just over two weeks when it hosts the Green & White/Alumni Meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Pohl Recreation Center.
