North Baltimore Lowers NAG Record in 13-14 400 Mixed Medley Relay

A quartet of swimmers from the North Baltimore Aquatic Club lowered the National Age Group record in the 13-14 mixed 400 medley relay Saturday evening at the NBAC Mid-Summer Classic in St. Mary’s City, Md. The team of Julia RommelSpencer BelbotDaniel Branon and Shannon Conway combined for a time of 4:11.32, six tenths quicker than the previous record.

The Bluefish Swim Club team of Nathan Delisle, Josh Parent, Aislin Farris and Brynn Wright set the old record of 4:11.95 in 2019.

Rommel led off in 1:06.09, followed by Belbot’s 1:09.61 breaststroke split. Branon went 56.95 on butterfly before Conway came home in 58.67.

Earlier in the meet, a similar-but-not-identical group of Branon, Conway, Madeline Ryan and Belbot chased the NAG record in the 200 free relay but fell just short, clocking a time of 1:46.30 that was less than four tenths off the 1:45.94 set by Rockville Montgomery Swim Club earlier this year. The Rommel, Belbot, Brannon and Conway grouping was a bit further off record-pace in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:57.17, about two seconds behind the 1:55.34 record.

North Baltimore is the club that produced 23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, and 2004 and 2008 Olympian Katie Hoff is another talented international performer who started her swimming career with the team.
